My HCG Beauty Kit

One of the most daunting aspects of the HCG protocol for me was giving up all my oil-based beauty products for 3+ weeks.

I'm a real supporter of natural organic based beauty products as your skin and hair absorbs absolutely everything. It was a bit of a struggle trying to find an oil-free moisturiser without it including any sort of oil (essential etc..) but I think I came pretty close!

Here is a run down of what I use to keep my skin feeling fantastic!

Facial Cleanser - Norwex Antibac Body microfibre cloths
www.cleaningwithnorwex.com.au

I use Norwex Antibac Body cloths at night before bed with only water for removing makeup, facial cleansing and exfoliating. This new breakthrough in ultra fine microfibre technology enables you to clean your skin deeply and thoroughly with only water. It is the only natural way to clean your skin, remove makeup and exfoliate. No alcohol or cleansers are needed. 3 to a package, so you can use one for a few days, toss it in the hamper, and grab a clean one.

Facial Toner - Natural Instinct Hydrating Toner
www.naturalinstinct.com.au

I follow night time cleansing with the Natural Instinct Hydrating Toner. I also use it in the morning after washing my face with water. Just a couple of sprays on a cotton pad and gently wipe over your face. The Natural Instinct Hydrating Toner will soothe and balance your skin while hydrating it with the goodness of natural ingredients and certified organic herbs. It's perfect for sensitive skin to!

Ingredients: Purified Water, Rose Water, Aloe Vera Juice, Vegetable Glycerine, Witch Hazel Water, Citric Acid, Suttocide (sugar cane derivative)

Facial Moisturiser -  Alba Hawaiian Oil-Free Moisturizer Aloe Vera and Green Tea
Alba Botanica Aloe & Green Tea Oil Free Moisturizer, 3-Ounce Bottle (Pack of 2)

This is the closest non-toxic oil-free moisturiser with natural ingredients I could find. It feels light on the skin and smells nice. It can also be used on your body if you have particularly dry skin. Certified organic aloe vera, green tea antioxidants and oil-free humectants absorb quickly to help replenish and protect skin against dehydration for a soft, healthy, luminous complexion. Gentle for all skin types and its pH balanced.

Ingredients: Purified water, vegetable glycerin, octyl palmitate, caprylic/capric triglycerides, cetearyl alcohol, glyceryl stearate, organic aloe barbadensis leaf juice, tromethamine stearate, glyceryl monolaurate, dimethicone, organic extracts of camellia sinensis (green tea) leaf, centella asiatica (gotu kola) and cucumis sativus (cucumber) fruit, tocopherol and tocopheryl acetate (vitamin E), hyaluronic acid, panthenol (pro-vitamin B5), allantoin, extracts of carica papaya fruit and zingiber zerumbet (awaphui), sodium PCA, xanthan gum, phenoxyethanol and fragrance.

Lips - Lucas' Paw Paw Ointment
www.lucaspapaw.com.au

I have been a dovotee of Lucas' Paw Paw Ointment for many years now and because it doesn't contain any added oils its HCG compliant! Made from 100% fermented paw paw (papaya) it feels lovely on my lips. I also use it on other areas when required.

After years of research T.P. Lucas, a botanist with professional experience, stated in his 1906 handbook that he believed that the papaw was the finest natural medicine yet discovered. He believed that the properties of the papaw tree (Carica Papaya) made it one of the most outstanding trees in the world. Of the thousands of specimens which passed through his hands, that which commanded his closest attention and to which he devoted special study was the papaw tree. His investigations led him to believe that he had made an outstanding discovery. Lucas documented many cures with remedies made from the papaw tree.
By use of papaw ointment sufferers today can derive the same benefits that thousands derived during T.P. Lucas' lifetime. Lucas' Papaw Ointment is a world-wide proven remedy of over 100 years standing, with antibacterial and antimicrobial properties it may be used as a local topical application on Minor Burns, Chafing, Cuts, Gravel Rash, Minor Open Wounds, Nappy Rash, Scalds, Sunburn, Splinters and Thorns.

Make-Up Cosmetics - Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics
www.youngbloodmineralcosmetics.com.au

I haven't had the need to use make up since I've started (I've become a bit of a hermit making the decision that this is so much more important to me than to risk "cheating" by going out too much). However, I have been using Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics for a number of years. Mineral makeup is compliant with the HCG protocol. I suggest not trying not to wear makeup as often as possible but if you must Youngblood is a great mineral product. Youngblood has amazing coverage, is great for sensitive skin because it’s talc free, perfume free, chemical dye free and is a full professional range of cosmetics. It gives you a natural glowing look.

Body Lotion - Coconut Oil
www.naturepacific.com

I do not use it myself as I don't want to risk hitting a mega plateau but many people have successfully used coconut oil as a gorgeous body lotion. I used it prior to HCG and can't wait to use it again. You can use it on your body, your hair and face. Its just amazing!

To list the many amazing benefits of coconut oil I would have to write a whole new blog post (which I probably will!). Make sure you get extra virgin coconut oil for both cooking and topical use. It should be very close to a white colour.

Rebounding is amazing! (also known as a mini trampoline)

Wow I can't believe the changes I am seeing! Not only in the scales but my body shape to boot!

I put a pair of shorts on today that normally have been too tight and give me a lovely muffin top/love handle look... and today I actually looked pretty good!!! My clothes are feeling looser and I'm feeling lighter and healthier. With only 14 days to go in this phase (Phase 2 - Very Low Caloric Diet) I can't wait to see and post photos of the end result :)

This week I have started incorporating more exercise which in turn has given me more energy. Keeping it light as I don't want to exhaust my body and put it into survival mode. Into my day I have incorporated:
  • 1 hour walking
  • 2 x 10 minutes on the rebounder (I have included the benefits of rebounding below!)
  • Light bodyweight resistance training 3 times a week
  • Body Balance or Yoga classes at the gym about 2 times a week

Here are my stats for the last few days. The rate my weight has been dropping has slowed down a little but with only 3.8kgs to go to my goal weight (54kgs) I only need to lose 0.27kgs per day. Here's hoping xx

Phase 2 - The VLCD
Day 7 (8 Nov)
Weight 58.2kg
Drop 0.5kg

Day 8 (9 Nov)
Weight 57.9kg
Drop 0.3kg

Day 9 (10 Nov)
Weight 57.8kg
Drop 0.1kg
TOTAL LOSS =  0.9kg (almost 1kg in 3 days!!)

Rebounding
Oh my gosh I can't get over how this simple activity has so many amazing benefits. I try and rebound about 5-10 minutes twice per day. Not only is it fun and easy (do it while watching your favourite TV show or - as I like to do - pump up your favourite music and dance/jump away). 10 minutes will go in a flash and you'll have so much fun doing it.

Using a rebounder (or mini trampoline) not only is well known to:
  • stimulate the lymphatic system
  • release amazing endorphins and beneficial hormones
  • be the only form of exercise known to stimulate and exercise EVERY cell in your body at the same time!
  • stimulate muscle tone/strength/flexibility
  • oxygenate the blood
  • improve circulation
  • stimulate the release of toxins
  • and REDUCE THE APPEARANCE OF CELLULITE!
WOWSA! (Did I mention its fun???)

As if that wasn't enough reason to go out and invest in a rebounder RIGHT NOW the following article further explains the benefits you can experience (Sourced from busywomensfitness.com)

The Surprising Health and Fitness Benefits of Rebounding

The benefits of rebounding were discovered by Dr. C. Samuel West but it was an ex-professional wrestler named Albert Carter who took advantage of the information and published a book called The Miracle of Rebound Exercise. Carter and his family were regular users of the trampoline and though they did little else in the way of exercise, they discovered they were stronger, fitter and better balanced than other people. Carters daughter was able to beat boys at arm wrestling. Carter's own heart rate at rest was 36 beats per minute!

Dr. West realised that trampolining uses three powerful forces...gravity, acceleration and deceleration. Your body automatically strengthens itself to cope with the worst conditions that are presented to it. So if you constantly expose your body to 1&1/2 times the force of gravity 1 1/2G, it will strenthen itself to cope with the stress. And the neat thing is that every cell in the body is exposed to the same forces and they all strengthen accordingly.

At the top of the bounce, your body becomes completely weightless and then as you reach the bottom of the bounce, you experience the force of 1 1 /2G (1.5 times the force of gravity). This stimulates the lymphatic system into greater efficiency in the clearing of waste matter in the body and in the effectiveness of the immune system.

This exercise has been studied by the space agency NASA and found to be 68% more oxygen efficient than other forms of exercise. What that means is that you can exercise quite vigorously on a trampoline without feeling out of breath, but still gain the same benefits you would from jogging on pavement.

This is good news for people who just can't go running because of health reasons such as arthritis.

It avoids the shinsplints and knee problems associated with exercise on a hard surface. It also has the beneficial effect of restoring bone mass and can actually stop osteoporosis from getting any worse

Some other surprising benefits have been reported

Allergies
People with allergies reported that after regular use of a mini trampoline many and in some cases all of their allergies were reduced or gone altogether. The effect on allergies took several months of regular rebounding, but their bodies were being much stengthened during the process.

Arthritis
Extensive tests have been done and have shown that this exercise is helpful in treating patients with osteo and rheumatoid arthritis. The relief felt by arthritis patients can often be dramatic. Those who suffer from arthritis though must not overdo it but must only bounce gently for a few minutes 2 or 3 times a day. Bouncing can take the place of jogging but still give the same benefits. This exercise will prevent excess calcium loss from the spine and other major bones and so can bring about dramatic improvement in arthitis sufferers.

Asthma
People with asthma, because of its nature, often have difficulty performing activities that require an elevated heart rate and heavy breathing. Because it is more oxygen efficient than other forms of exercise many asthma sufferers can do it and feel better as they are getting fit. Again, going gently is the way to do it.

Back Problems
Rebounding strengthens the back without the undue strain that you would experience running on a hard surface.

Balance
This exercise improves balance and coorination because the surface of the rebounder flexes in all directions and therefore gives optimal stimulation to your bodys balancing mechanisms.

Blood Pressure, Cholesterol and Circulation
This exercise strengthens the heart muscle and all of the cells of the body. The stronger the heart muscle, the less work it has to do to pump blood throughout the body. At the same time, the strengthened muscles of the body become more efficient at using oxygen and therefore require less. The stimulation of the lymphatic system becomes more efficient at clearing waste, such as cholesterol from the system.

This can result in a reduction in blood pressure and also help with varicose veins.

Colds and Sore Throats
Use of a rebounder stimulates the lymphatic/immune system and a few minutes of gentle rebounding frequently, maybe four or five times a day, has actually been shown to stop the onset of colds and sore throats in some studies.

Diabetes
The symptoms of diabetes can definitely be reduced with exercise, in fact, many type 2 diabetes patients are prescibed exercise by their doctors as a way to control the problem. Rebounding is a form of exercise that is non strenuous and can be easily done by anyone of any age and has been shown to help in the control of blood sugar levels.

Injury Reduction
Studies have shown that 27% to 70% of joggers get hurt in their first year of running. The impact forces that cause these injuries can be reduced by 80% with the use of rebound shoes such as Kangoo jumps. In fact, a study done in Canada produced an impact injury rate of 0% using Kangoo Jumps.

I found lowest prices online for rebounders (mini-trampolines) are at Amazon.

Increased Metabolism
Regular rebound exercise will cause the base metabolic rate to become increasingly more efficient, resulting in noticeable improvements in muscle tone, and weight management. In fact, we are actually re-training each cell to perform as it did when we were younger. Once we have re-set our metabolism, we will burn more calories at a higher rate, and will not regain weight, if we continue to bounce.

Increased Energy
This non strenuous physical activity has the same benefit as some of the much more strenuous exercises without the exhaustion. You will enjoy an incredible high level of energy right away and feel relaxed.

Natural Face Lift
Each cell of your body is like a balloon. This exercise puts them repeatedly under stress as they need to resist the increased G force (when the balloon reaches the maximum elongation). With time, the cell’s membrane get thicker, thus firmer, and gains elasticity.

Your skin is a community of cells. Therefore, regular use of a mini trampoline will firm your skin and increase it’s elasticity.

Build Bone Mass
The NASA study also showed that this was the best exercise to rebuild the lost bone tissue of astronauts whose continued weightless state caused them to lose up to 15% bone mass in only 2 weeks in space. This same exercise can be used by anyone (especially women) to prevent osteoporosis and actually reverse the damage.

Strengthen your spine
Rebounding has a positive influence on spinal and intervertebral disc health by providing maximum spinal imbibition. This, of course, is essential for the proper transfer of nutrients into the disc and the removal of metabolic waste products out of the disc, thereby maintaining and restoring intervertebral health and function. Dr. David Love, D.C. - Capitola, California

Fight Depression and Stress
The positive effects on stress levels have been studied in depth. Dr. Morton Walker, in his book “Jumping for Health”, pages 82-91, describes 30 Specific Anti-stress Benefits of Rebounding (Avery Publishing Group Inc., Garden City Park, New York)

Awesome first week loss!

It's been a week since I started and I've got to say so far I am loving the results! I'm sorry for not posting over the last few days. I have been so busy with a few project deadlines I was working on but now I'm back! :)

My weight has dropped 3.3kgs (from 62kg to 58.7kgs) and I am feeling lighter, less bloated, less hungry and more energetic.

Phase 2 - The VLCD
Day 3 (4 Nov)
Weight 60.2kg
Drop 1.6kg

Day 4 (5 Nov)
Weight 59.6kg
Drop 0.6kg

Day 5 (6 Nov)
Weight 58.7kg (the lightest I have been since the beginning of the year!)
Drop 0.9kg

Day 6 (7 Nov)
Weight 58.7kg
Drop 0kg

Measurements:
Hips -3.3cm
Navel -2cm
Waist -2.5cm
Thigh -2.5cm
Thigh Top -1.5cm
Chest -4cm
Bicep (flexed) 0cm
Calf 0cm
Butt 0cm
Fat% (scales) -1.4%
Fat% (guage) -8% (not sure if I did this one correctly)
TOTAL - 9.2cm LOSS!!!!

I was a little disappointed this morning when I got on the scales and found I didn't drop any weight. This could be due to a number of factors which are quite normal during the protocol.
- I used sunscreen on Day 5 which may have affected it somehow
- My digestion was a little slow
- Water retention
- A Plateau

But I'm not going to let this get in my way!! I am so happy so far so I'll will observe my results over the next few days and see if it shifts!

I came across this simple explanation from a forum as to why some people plateau during the protocol (user fawnvinke) from the Hcg_support - Dr. Simeons/K.Trudeau protocol Yahoo! group (http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Hcg_support)
"If you've been following the protocols pretty closely then you can count on some
plateauing to help your body with the fat shed.

I've been doing a LOT of researching on HCG and this part blew me away.

The conventional wisdom is that once you've gained fat cells that's it. They're
with you forever. The only variable is how big or small they are (and lots of
fat in 'em creates the cottage cheese effect so many of us are too familiar
with.)

HCG sucks out the fat from these cells. Literally empties them out. As a
result you now have an empty fat cell sack. Then a miracle starts to occur.
Those cell membranes once emptied begin to get *reabsorbed back into the body*.
They literally melt away, disappear (unless you go back to hi fat etc and
recreate them which is of course always possible).

The process requires them to fill up with fluid once the fat is gone to help
with the reabsorption process. So instead of a deflated cell sac deteriorating
in your body you have a full juicy one and then the process can go thru without
a hitch. This 'retention of fluid' is temporary and required for these cell
membranes to reabsorb.

When I see that I've only dropped a tiny bit or not at all it gets me excited
because I know that my fat cells are doing their disappearing dance.

Once doctor with a clinic doing HCG wrote that the apple day is for
psychological purposes only. The protocol of eating up to 6 apples with as
little water as possible is designed to force fluid out of those cells and then
you get a satisfying drop in weight. But they say not to do that until 4, 5 or
6 days of plateuing. However, ever if you don't do the apple day, eventually
that fluid will not be needed and your weight will go down. But it won't hurt
as long as you wait some days. The doctor wrote that an apple day is basically
done for purely psychological reasons i.e. it's frustrating not to see a drop
and this will take care of that. I still may do an apple day just for the heck
of it but again, plateuing on this (as long as you haven't done too much
'cheating') is a good thing.

FYI y'all :-)"

Also for all of you who are interested in getting to know the ins and outs of the hcg protocol you can download the free ebook online from many sources.

Here is one: http://www.pharmacyescrow.com/hcg-diet.aspx

Exercise wise I have started walking for 1 hour a day which makes me feel great! I also try and do about 5-10 minutes on the rebounder. My energy levels have increased quite a bit so I am considering going back to the gym a couple of times this week to do some pilates/yoga classes as well as some light resistance/bodyweight training.

Until next time xx

A Little Hungry (Phase 2 - Day 2)

So its Day 2 and I've been feeling some hunger pangs... but no where near what I though I might!

Was so glad to see a weight drop this morning WOOHOO!

Phase 2 - The VLCD
Day 2 (3 Nov)
Weight 61.8
Drop 1.6kg

Food-wise today I ate:
  • Mid-morning: small green organic apple
  • Lunch: 100g organic chicken breast (grilled on a George Foreman grill with some celtic sea salt, paprika, cayenne pepper and mixed herbs for seasoning), large handful of silverbeet (steamed with a pinch of celtic sea salt, paprika and cayenne pepper for taste)
  • Mid-afternoon: half of an organic orange
  • Dinner: 100g organic veal (grilled and seasoned) with a handful of steamed asparagus (seasoned)

In the morning, half an hour after taking my drops, I have some lemon juice in warm water, followed by a capful of organic apple cider vinegar.

In between I've been drinking about 3L of water along with a range of teas (yerba mate, oolong, green tea, ginger tea), and black coffee.

After reading a few forums and books on the Hcg diet it seems normal to feel a little hungry on the first few days but it supposed to pass. Can't wait!

I've been trying to do some light exercise as well. I've dropped my weights training at the gym and am aiming for 30mins-1hr walking, 5-10mins bouncing on the rebounder, and yoga whenever I can.

I'm findiing Kevin Trudeau's book "The Weight Loss Cure They Don't Want You To Know About" my little companion through all of this. Its such a gem and can't recommend it enough!!

Start of the HCG protocol

Hi Everyone

So this is Day 1 of Phase 2 of my experiment with Dr Simeon's HCG protocol and so far so good!

I spent the last 2 days GORGING like you wouldn't believe while taking my 10 drops of homeopathic HCG 3 times per day. Last night I felt incredibly ill with nausea and bloating but I think it was more to do with the "nasty" food I had been consuming non stop rather than anything else.

The point of the first phase is basically to feed your body with enough oils and fats to sustain you on a 500 calorie diet, especially if you had been avoiding fatty foods previously.

I think the "gorge-fest" was almost like a mental exercise for me also because it made me realise how bad my body felt over-eating and bingeing on low nutrient, high sugar, high fat (as in bad fats like canola oil etc..). I am actually relieved its over!

I spent most of the last month following Kevin Trudeau's "The Weight Loss Cure". He suggests that before launching straight into the Dr Simeon protocol you should give your body a cleanse and a break from all the modern toxins we deal with on a day-to-day basis.

And although life got in the way last week (we had a friend visit from overseas who really wanted to get out and party.. which definitely put me off course) I've got to say eating organically, using a rebounder, getting a shower filter, and taking a few of the supplements Trudeau suggested really made me feel GREAT!

I lost a few kilos to boot (although the week of partying pretty much reversed that weight loss - lesson learnt!).

To keep me on track throughout the protocal I thought I'd post my start up stats which I will updated every few days. This is sort of like a commitment to stay on track :)

My goal weight is about 54-55kgs (around 10kgs to lose). I was at this weight years ago and its when I felt the most healthy and confident. Would love to get that back!

Here are my "soon to be" before photos - eek! Can't believe I'm sharing them :P

Phase 1 - "The Gorgefest"
Day 1 (31 Oct)
Weight 62kgs

Measurements:
Hips 96cm
Navel 83cm
Waist 74.5cm
Thigh 50.5cm
Thigh Top 63.5cm
Chest 94cm
Bicep (flexed) 29.5cm
Calf 36.5cm
Butt 100cm
Fat% (scales) 24.5%
Fat% (guage) 28%

Day 2 (1 Nov)
Weight 63.4kg
Gain +1.4kg  (WOWSA - The Dr Simeon manuscript assures that the weight gained here will quickly come off)

Phase 2 - The VLCD (Very Low Caloric Diet)
Day 1 (2 Nov)
Weight 63.4kg
Gain 0kg (at least its stabilised!)

To help me stay on track I think its really important to get organised! So I spent about an hour this morning cutting the fat off my organic veal, beef and chicken; weighing out exactly 100g portions, and bagging them into sandwich bags. I've left a few out to last today and tomorrow and am freezing the rest and thawing them as required.

I think its really important to set the stage for success so you almost don't have to think about doing it - it just becomes automatic!

Well I think that's all for today. Would love to hear from others who are on this journey!

Healthy and Delicious Cocoa!

On such a windy, rainy, and cold day (not the usual spring Queensland day I was getting used to!) I couldn't think of anything better to snuggle up with than a hot cup of cocoa!

I thought I'd share this easy, yummy, and (close to) organic recipe with you! Its healthy and doesn't use any unnatural ingredients.

Ingredients (1 serving)
1 tbsp organic cocoa (you could use any flavour or mix a few)
1/2 tsp organic honey (I don't like things too sweet so start with this and add more until you reach the desired taste)
1/2 tsp organic cinnamon
3/4 cup distilled/spring water (you can substitute half of this with milk if desired)
1/4 cup organic thickened cream

Method
  1. Add cocoa, cinnamon, and water to small pot
  2. Stir with whisk until combined and reflective
  3. Slowly bring mixture to boil then turn heat down - continue stirring
  4. Add honey (at this stage you could also add vanilla/flavouring if desired) and stir for about 2 minutes
  5. Pour into mug (top up with hot water if required)
  6. Whisk chilled cream in a bowl until thickened
  7. Use a teaspoon to put cream on top

ENJOY!

Hi and welcome!

Hi and welcome to the humble abode of Natural Gorgeous Sexy!

My aim is to road test, review and document my exploration into all things natural, raw and organic. For over 10 years I have discovered the health benefits of making life simpler through the food I eat, the products I use, exercising my body and the power of my mind.

It all started in my mid-teens. I was overweight, controlled by cravings, suffering from chronic fatigue and depressed. Any time I fell ill I was pumped with antibiotics only to find myself back at the doctors within weeks. I was after a way to improve my health, wellbeing and beauty inside and out.

I have tried many detox regimes, weight loss plans, beauty products, treatments and supplements. Some worked... some didn’t... and most were difficult to maintain.

Join me in my journey toward the Natural Gorgeous Sexy goddess within each of us!
